Chrysothol is a product that is used to study the antibacterial activity of plants. It is an extract of the plant Teucrium polium, which has been shown to have potent antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus and Enterocolitica. This extract has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The phytochemical studies of Chrysothol have found that it contains cinnamic acid derivatives, which are thought to be responsible for its antibacterial activity.
