Tiotropium bromide is a long-acting bronchodilator that is used to relieve the symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is a crystalline drug with an extended duration of action. Tiotropium bromide acts by binding to the beta2-adrenergic receptor, which prevents activation of these receptors and inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators. This drug has been shown to be effective for up to 12 months in adults with asthma who are not responsive to standard therapy. Tiotropium bromide does not interact significantly with other drugs, but should be used cautiously in patients with liver impairment or congestive heart failure due to its potential for adverse effects on these organs.
