2,6-Anhydro-D-glycero-D-gluo-heptonic acid methylamide is a synthetic sugar that is used as a building block for the synthesis of oligosaccharides and monosaccharides. The glycosylation of 2,6-Anhydro-D-glycero-D-gluo-heptonic acid methylamide can be catalyzed by any of the glycosylators that use saccharides as substrates. This modification can also be achieved by methylation to produce methylated 2,6-Anhydro-D-glycero-D-gluo heptonic acid methylamide. It has been shown to exhibit antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1.
