Benzene-chromium(0) tricarbonyl is a stable complex of benzene and chromium in the oxidation state 0. It is used as a model system for kinetic energy transfer reactions and organometallic compounds. Benzene-chromium(0) tricarbonyl has been shown to react with hydroxyl groups to form stable complexes with carbon monoxide, water vapor, and x-ray crystal structures. This compound is soluble in organic solvents such as trifluoroacetic acid, which is why it can be used as an enzyme substrate. It also reacts with amines to form hexacarbonyl compounds.
