4-O-Benzyl-L-rhamnal is a functionalized, asymmetric, glycosylating agent that is used in the synthesis of glycoconjugates. 4-O-Benzyl-L-rhamnal is synthesized by the reaction of benzaldehyde with an aldehyde group on the sugar molecule. The product is then reacted with an alcohol to form a glycosidic bond. This process can be repeated until the desired number of sugar molecules are added.
