3-(4-Hydroxyphenethyl)phenol (HPP) is a stilbene derivative of the phenolic class. HPP has been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of cancer cells, as well as induce apoptosis in vitro. This compound also has anti-inflammatory properties that have been observed in vivo and in vitro studies. HPP inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis and polymerase chain reactions (PCR). It has also been shown to have antioxidant properties, which may be due to its ability to scavenge free radicals.
