ALLO-1 is a ligand that interacts with mitochondria and regulates their membrane potential. It is also involved in the process of autophagy, which is a cellular process that degrades damaged or unnecessary proteins and organelles to maintain cell homeostasis. ALLO-1 has been shown to inhibit drug-resistant cancer cells, such as medulloblastoma, by inducing autophagy. This drug may be able to reduce tumor size and prolong survival in these patients. The exact mechanism of action for this drug remains unknown; however, it may be due to its hydrophobic nature that allows it to penetrate the cell membrane and interact with other molecules within the cytosol.
