4-Benzoylpiperidine is a type of atypical antipsychotic drug. It is a dopamine and serotonin (5-HT) receptor antagonist that has anticancer activity. 4-Benzoylpiperidine binds to the 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors, which are responsible for mediating the effects of serotonin in the brain. This drug's anticancer activity may be due to its ability to inhibit cell growth by binding to DNA and inhibiting protein synthesis. 4-Benzoylpiperidine inhibits hyperlocomotion in rats with Parkinson's disease as well as symptoms of schizophrenia in humans. The affinity ligands for this drug are positron emitters.
