3-Ethoxypropanohydrazide is a potent inhibitor of lipoxygenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the cell membrane. This reaction leads to the formation of leukotrienes. 3-Ethoxypropanohydrazide has been shown to inhibit this enzyme with nanomolar affinity and has been used as a probe for screening for other potent inhibitors of this enzyme. 3-Ethoxypropanohydrazide has also been shown to be efficacious in treating lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
