1-Amino-3-chloro-2-propanol hydrochloride is a chiral organic solvent. It is used as a chiral auxiliary in the synthesis of cyproterone acetate and related compounds. When inorganic salts are added to 1-amino-3-chloro-2-propanol hydrochloride, it can be used as an extraction solvent for metals and other inorganic compounds. It has been shown to have spermatozoal activity and to affect testicular function in animals. 1-Amino-3-chloro-2-propanol hydrochloride can also be used as a solvent for medicines, such as chloropropane and rhesus monkey serum albumin.
