Descripción:(S)-3-Hydroxy-1-methyl-piperidine is a pharmacological agent that belongs to the class of bronchodilatory agents. It has been shown to have an affinity for muscarinic receptors and can be used as a bronchodilator. It has also been found to be an antagonist of the quaternary ammonium ion, which may lead to anti-inflammatory activities. This drug is synthesized by converting the erythrohydroxypyridine into an oxime with hydrochloric acid and methyl iodide in the presence of zinc dust under refluxing conditions. The (S) enantiomer is more potent than its (R) counterpart and has a longer half-life in vivo.
