Descripción:(2S)-3-Cyclohexyl-2-hydroxypropanoic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula CHCHOHCOH. It is a white solid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. (2S)-3-Cyclohexyl-2-hydroxypropanoic acid has been used for the synthesis of phenylpyruvic acid, which is an intermediate for the production of pharmaceuticals. The molecule has an acidic hydrolysis, which can be carried out through a nucleophilic substitution reaction with cyanide ion. The product of this reaction is phenylacetaldehyde, which can be converted to benzaldehyde. This process is enantioselective because it produces only one chiral form of benzaldehyde from a racemic mixture.
