It is used as a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and bowel disease. 3DHSI has been shown to have excitotoxic effects on neurons in animal models of Parkinson's disease and epilepsy. 3DHSI can be conjugated to compounds that are biologically active, such as fatty alcohols or amino acids.
