Rilpivirine-d6 has been shown to reduce viral load and increase CD4+ T cell counts in HIV patients who are on antiretroviral therapy. Rilpivirine-d6 binds to the reverse transcriptase enzyme and prevents the formation of DNA from RNA, thus inhibiting viral replication.
