1,2:5,6-Di-O-isopropylidene-a-L-glucofuranose is a monosaccharide that is a component of the fatty acid biosynthesis pathway. It has been shown to be important in clinical relevance, because it can inhibit viral replication by binding to the virus as a nucleophile and attacking the glycosidic bond. This monosaccharide also inhibits the growth of liver cells by binding to a receptor on the cell surface. 1,2:5,6-Di-O-isopropylidene-a-L-glucofuranose binds specifically to nucleophilic sites on proteins and has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties through its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
