It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth in vitro. The drug has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in vivo and may be useful for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. 1,2:3,4-Di-O-isopropylidene-a-D-fucopyranose has been observed to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL1β and TNFα by macrophages at concentrations of 10 μM or less. It has also been shown to inhibit NFκB activation by inhibiting IκB kinase activity.
