1,6-Bis(trimethoxysilyl)hexane (BTMS) is a silicon-containing compound that can be used to create coatings or as a potential building block in organic electronics. It is stable in acidic conditions and has been shown to react with styrene and water surfaces. BTMS is also reactive when exposed to supercritical carbon dioxide or nonpolar solvents. The chemical structure of BTMS consists of a siloxane backbone and trimethoxysilane groups at each end. This chemical structure allows for the molecule to be gelled under certain conditions, which may make it useful for coating applications.
