• Descripción: 2-Hydroxyethane-1-sulfonamide is a potent antiviral agent that inhibits the virus from entering cells by binding to the fatty acid component of the viral envelope. It also has potent antitumor activity and has been shown to be effective against HIV infection. 2-Hydroxyethane-1-sulfonamide binds to mitochondrial matrix proteins, inhibiting fatty acid oxidation and glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) activation. This inhibition leads to the depletion of cellular energy stores, which eventually results in cell death. 2-Hydroxyethane-1-sulfonamide also inhibits ammonolysis reactions, which converts ammonium into ammonia, a process that is necessary for nitrogen fixation in plants and bacteria.
