Peritassine A is a terpene that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in experimental models of autoimmune disease. Peritassine A inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and IL-6, by blocking the activity of phospholipase A2. It also inhibits the production of inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Peritassine A is an on-line drug that can be used to treat inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, or psoriasis. The main adverse effect associated with peritassine A treatment is gastrointestinal upset. It should not be used in patients with active peptic ulceration or severe hepatic dysfunction.
