Descripción:Monepantel is a drug that has been shown to have anthelmintic activity in vitro and in vivo models. It binds to the cation channel of nematode worms, which prevents the flow of ions across the membrane and leads to paralysis and death of the worm. Monepantel also has shown to be clinically relevant for the treatment of microbial infections in humans. It inhibits an enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of phospholipids, which are vital for cell membranes. Monepantel binds with high affinity to bacterial cells, but not mammalian cells. This drug is broken down by chemical stability and has a short half-life in vivo because it is excreted through urine.
