4-Methoxyphenyl 3-O-allyl-4,6-O-benzylidene-b-D-galactopyranoside is a galactoside that is commonly found in plants. The biosynthesis of this molecule has been studied in the bacteria N. meningitidis and it has been shown that it can be synthesized from fatty acids. 4-Methoxyphenyl 3-O-allyl-4,6-O-benzylidene b -D -galactopyranoside can be used as a HIV drug, as it inhibits the growth of HIV cells by inhibiting protein synthesis and RNA transcription. This molecule is also able to inhibit cancer cell proliferation in vitro.
