TAO binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is a protein that regulates cell proliferation. TAO inhibits cancer cell growth by blocking the activation of EGFR and its downstream signaling pathways. This inhibition leads to tumor regression in xenografts in mice. TAO also blocks o-glycosylation, which is a process that enhances cancer therapy resistance.
