It binds to the peptide receptors on the cell surface, which blocks the ligand-receptor interaction and prevents the activation of protein kinase A. Banoxantrone is also an activator of tyrosine kinase and has been used as a research tool in pharmacology, cell biology, and biochemistry. This drug has been used as an antibody labeling reagent for peptides. Banoxantrone is soluble in water and has a molecular weight of 456.6 g/mol.
