(2E,4R)-5-{[1,1-biphenyl]-4-yl}-4-{[(tert-butoxy)carbonyl]amino}-2-methylpent-2-enoic acid is a catalyst that can be used for the asymmetric reduction of alcohols. It is soluble in solvents such as alcohols and water and has been shown to be effective at high yields with low levels of byproduct formation. The product of this reaction is formate and ammonium ions. This catalyst can also be used to reduce formate to ammonium with sacubitril as an oxidant.
