It has been shown to have a protective effect against eye disorders in rats and was found to have low toxicity in the eye. 3,4,6-Tri-O-acetyl-a-D-glucopyranose 1,2-(methyl orthoacetate) can be used for treatment of cardiac diseases such as heart disease. The compound may also be able to provide protection against neurologic impairment by inhibiting the production of free radicals due to its antioxidant properties.
