Cis-zeatin-o-glucoside is a carotenoid that belongs to the group of apocarotenoids. It is found in the plant Eucomis and other plants, such as Triticum aestivum. Cis-zeatin-o-glucoside can be obtained from the hydrolysis of zeatin, which is synthesized by a carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase enzyme. The biosynthesis of cis-zeatin-o-glucoside involves two enzymes: an apical carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase and a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system. The apical carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase enzyme is a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that catalyzes the oxidative cleavage of carotenoids at their covalent bond to produce cis-zeatin o-glucoside.
