It also inhibits protein synthesis in human cells. 5-Aminomethyluridine may be able to block the progression of infectious diseases by inhibiting protein synthesis in the host cell. The compounds have been shown to inhibit the catalytic subunit of ribonucleotide reductase and RNA polymerase II, which are vital for cellular replication.
