It is synthesized by attaching an acetyl group to the 2' position of the sugar moiety and a toluoyl group to the 3' position of the ribose moiety. 9-[2'-O-Acetyl-3'-azido-3'-deoxy-5'-O-toluoyl]-6 chloropurine has been shown to be an activator of RNA polymerase II and III, which are involved in transcription and replication.
