Lys-Lys-OH is a synthetic antimicrobial peptide that inhibits the growth of bacteria in vitro. It has been shown to be a potential biomarker for cancer, as it can bind to dna and inhibit protein synthesis. Lys-Lys-OH is a cyclic peptide with two lysine residues joined by an ester linkage. It binds to bacterial cell membranes and disrupts the integrity of the membrane bilayer, leading to cell death. The α subunit of epidermal growth factor (EGF) has been shown to be a substrate for Lys-Lys-OH, which attaches to the EGF receptor on the surface of cells by binding to its extracellular domain. This leads to inhibition of protein synthesis and cell division.
