Cassiaside is a polysaccharide that has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and transcription-polymerase chain activity, which may be due to the presence of epidermal growth factor. Cassiaside is found in Pueraria lobata and Cimicifuga foetida. It has been shown to inhibit the production of mucin in the stomach, which is associated with the development of gastric ulcers. Cassiaside binds to DNA by hydrogen bonding, which prevents DNA replication and transcription. This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind collagen in the cell nucleus and interfere with protein synthesis.
