The peptide AM-211 is a potent activator of the TRPV1 receptor, which is expressed in sensory neurons. This receptor is activated by heat and capsaicin, and mediates pain sensation. AM-211 has been shown to inhibit voltage-gated sodium channels, which are involved in the generation of action potentials. It also binds to the extracellular domain of the Nogo receptor and blocks its interaction with its ligands.
TRPV1 receptors have been implicated in various diseases such as chronic pain, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
