It has been shown to have synergistic effects with doxorubicin, an anthracycline drug that interferes with DNA replication and protein synthesis. Dexrazoxane hydrochloride can also be used as a diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is most commonly used to detect dexrazoxane and its metabolites in biological fluids such as serum or urine.
