Methyl 2-methoxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate is a pyrimidine derivative that is used as a reagent in the synthesis of other chemicals. It is prepared by treating methyl pyrimidine-5-carboxylate with hydrazine. The reaction between methyl 2-methoxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate and dimethylaminohydrazide in the presence of base gives methyl 5,6,7,8 tetrahydroquinoline-2(1H)-one. Methyl 2-methoxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate reacts with esters to form methyl esters and pyrrolidones.
