Deacetyleupaserrin is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been shown to have anticancer activity against prostate cancer cells in vitro. It also inhibits the growth of other cancer cell lines, such as MCF-7 and Hep2, and has been shown to inhibit the reactive oxygen species (ROS) in these cells. Deacetyleupaserrin was found to be active against breast cancer cell line SKOV3 and had a greater effect on this line than on prostate cancer cells. Deacetyleupaserrin's mechanism of action is not yet well understood, but it may work by affecting the mitochondria or inhibiting protein synthesis.
