4-(Benzylamino)furan-2(5H)-one is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the ribosomal RNA and inhibiting protein synthesis. 4-(Benzylamino)furan-2(5H)-one has shown multiresistant activity against aureus, which is due to substituents on the molecule that bind to different sites on the ribosome than other antibiotics. The chemical structure of this drug contains both alcohols and amines, which are common components of butenolide antibiotics.
