1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium dibutyl phosphate is an ionic liquid that undergoes a redox cycle in which it reacts with hexane and phellodendron amurense, producing an electrochemical method for the detection of functional groups. The chromatographic method allows for the separation of organic compounds based on their solubility. It is soluble in hexane and has a low activation energy. This ionic liquid has been shown to be a good solvent for human urine and can be used as a solvent in other applications.
