2-Chloroisonicotinic acid is an inhibitor that binds to the active site of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is responsible for the breakdown of acetylcholine. It has been shown that this compound inhibits the reaction by binding to the tetranuclear copper center in the active site. 2-Chloroisonicotinic acid also has a dispersive solid-phase extraction procedure that can be used to extract compounds from a variety of organic solvents. The optimal reaction conditions for this process are a pH of 7 and a temperature of 100°C, with a time period of 10 minutes. This chemical has antimicrobial properties and can be used against organisms such as Clostridium difficile. This drug is effective when administered at doses ranging from 1-10 mg/kg in mice.
