2,4-Dichloro-5-phenylpyrimidine is a heterocyclic compound with the chemical formula C6H3Cl2N3. This compound is a colorless solid that has been shown to yield high yields of 2,4-dichloro-5-phenylpyrimidine by photolysis of benzene or acetonitrile solutions. The compound can also be synthesized from furan and pyrrole in low yields. 2,4-Dichloro-5-phenylpyrimidine is an arene that contains one heteroatom (i.e. nitrogen) and two alkyl groups (i.e. chlorines). It has been shown to produce the isomers 4,5-dichloropyrimidine and 5,6 dichloropyrimidine when heated at high temperatures in the presence of hydrogen chloride gas.
