Descripción

2',5'-Dideoxycytidine is a potent inhibitor of viral DNA polymerases. It is an oligonucleotide that has been shown to inhibit the replication of herpes simplex virus and other DNA viruses. 2',5'-Dideoxycytidine is also a potent inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The activity of 2',5'-dideoxycytidine is due to its ability to bind to the viral DNA polymerase and block the synthesis of new viral DNA. This drug also inhibits HIV-1 reverse transcriptase by binding to its active site and preventing RNA chain elongation. Finally, 2',5'-dideoxycytidine can be phosphoramidites for use in antisense oligonucleotides for inhibition of gene expression.
