It has also been shown to inhibit the replication of HIV and herpes simplex virus. 7-Deaza-2-mercaptohypoxanthine is an analog of hypoxanthine, which is a nucleoside that can be found in DNA and RNA. In addition, this compound can be used as a phosphoramidite or nucleotide analogue for the synthesis of DNA and RNA. This compound can also be used as an antiviral agent against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1).
