Descripción:5,6-Dinitro-1-(b-D-ribofuranosyl)benzamidazole is a novel and synthetic nucleoside analog that is being studied as an anticancer drug. It has been shown to have high antiviral activity against HIV, herpes simplex virus type 1, and herpes simplex virus type 2. 5,6-Dinitro-1-(b-D-ribofuranosyl)benzamidazole is a phosphoramidate prodrug of the natural compound 6-nitrobenzoxazole. This drug is activated by deoxyribonucleosides in vivo to form the monophosphate which inhibits viral DNA synthesis. The phosphoramidate prodrug form of 5,6-dinitrobenzoxazole has been shown to be more potent than the parent compound in inhibiting replication of HIV and herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2.
