It is postulated to be a potential cancer therapeutic agent because of its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis and cell division. 3-Deazauridine-5'-triphosphate triethylamine salt inhibits the biosynthesis of uridine in leukemic mice, hamster V79 cells, and mammalian cells. This drug inhibits the incorporation of uracil into RNA by competitive inhibition with respect to ATP. 3DATTP also inhibits the incorporation of thymidine into DNA by competitive inhibition with respect to dCTP.
