It is a colorless liquid with a high boiling point and has been used as a precursor in the synthesis of polymers. 2-(Benzyloxy)-1,3,5-tribromobenzene undergoes an alkylation reaction with styrene followed by hydrolysis and condensation to yield polystyrene. The kinetic study of 2-(Benzyloxy)-1,3,5-tribromobenzene was carried out in the presence of different catalysts immobilized on silica gel. The rate constant was found to be dependent on the type of immobilizing agent and solvent.
