Descripción:2-(Methoxymethyl)benzoic acid is a natural product that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. It is an ethylene precursor and is synthesized by the alkaline hydrolysis of 2-hydroxybenzoic acid. 2-(Methoxymethyl)benzoic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, such as E. coli, in the presence of hexanoic or octanoic acids. This compound also inhibits the growth of other bacterial species, including lamiaceae and eugenol, at low concentrations. The inhibitory effect may be due to its ability to bind to hydrophobic sites on bacterial cell membranes. 2-(Methoxymethyl)benzoic acid acts as a phenolic compound with a hydrocarbon group.
