7-Methoxybenzo[b]thiophene is a chiral sulfonamide that has been shown to inhibit the activity of acetyl-coa carboxylase, which is an enzyme involved in fatty acid oxidation. It also inhibits the activity of dehydrative sulfonanilides and sulfoxides. This drug has been shown to be effective in rats orally, with a half-life of approximately 3 hours. The oral bioavailability is enhanced by aromatization and sulfonanilide metabolism. 7-Methoxybenzo[b]thiophene exhibits moderate metabolic stability and is metabolized through acetylation, deacetylation, or hydroxylation reactions.
