AU1235 is an experimental antibiotic that is a potent inhibitor of the mycobacterial cell wall synthesis. It prevents mycolic acid-containing lipids from being incorporated into the cell wall, which leads to inhibition of mycobacterium growth. The target enzymes for AU1235 are unknown, but it has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and uptake in mycobacterial cells. The clinical development of AU1235 as a drug for tuberculosis is currently ongoing.
