It has been shown to inhibit the incorporation of uridine into viral DNA and terminate elongation of viral DNA. 4'-Ethynylthymidine has also been shown to be active against other viruses such as vesicular stomatitis virus, influenza virus, and hepatitis C virus. The cytotoxicity of this drug is significant and may provide potential therapeutics for cancer treatment.
