Isocoronarin D is a diterpene that has been shown to induce cancer cell death and may be useful in the treatment of cancer. Isocoronarin D has been shown to synergize with eugenol, which is a plant-derived compound used as an anti-inflammatory agent. Isocoronarin D was shown to have significant cytotoxicity against various types of cancer cells and to inhibit the growth of human prostate tumor cells in vitro. The mechanism of action for this compound is not fully understood but it may involve the inhibition of response elements on DNA that regulate gene expression, or by interfering with protein kinase activity.
