The resultant product is crystallized from a mixture of boron trifluoride, dichloromethane, and ether. 3-(Cyclopentyloxy)phenol is also used in the synthesis of calixarenes, which are macrocyclic compounds that are used as chiral stationary phases for gas chromatography.
