Descripción:BIRT 377 is a humanized monoclonal antibody with specificity for the inflammatory molecule MCP-1. It is being developed as a therapy for inflammatory bowel disease, which is characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. BIRT 377 binds to MCP-1 and blocks its interaction with the receptor CCR2 on the surface of cells in the gastrointestinal tract. This prevents inflammatory responses that are responsible for tissue damage and ulceration. BIRT 377 has been shown to be effective in animal models of inflammatory bowel disease, and clinical studies are underway in humans.
